Artist Spotlight: Lauren Kulp

Lauren Kulp is a visual artist from Bucks County, PA specializing in photography, painting, and drawing which she then digitizes to create colorful, semi-trippy pieces. Lauren is utilizing all of her favorite mediums and bringing them together digitally so that she can work with them more freely and imaginatively. She really enjoys working with a lot of layers, which makes it fun for the observer, because you can go back to a piece of hers you’ve already seen and find something new in it.

This method of creating her work first through traditional methods (photography, painting, etc.) and then digitizing it helps Lauren more effectively get across the vision of the piece which she sees in her mind. Her joy is creating these beautiful works and her goal is to bring that enjoyment to her audience.

One of Lauren’s main goals is to show her work to as many people as possible in order to become a full time freelance artist. She hopes to one day have her work featured in art shows in New York City, California, and even Tokyo. Sticking to her dreams, Lauren is pushing out new work every day and her finished pieces are also available for purchase (I personally have bought two pieces from her and love them).

So what inspires an artist so much to create new pieces so often? Well, Lauren is inspired by Van Gogh and his ability to create movement in his work as well as Shepard Fairey’s work with all of it’s layers and colors. Music is also a big part of her inspiration and creative process. Lauren listens to a lot of classic rock, rock, and alternative music. She’s always listening to multiple artists, but some of her current favorites are Led Zeppelin, Queen, Van Halen, Pvris, Motionless in White, Black Veil Brides, and My Chemical Romance.

You can keep up with Lauren’s work on Twitter and Instagram as well as her website. Be sure to check out all of her fun and beautiful pieces!
