A Classic Touch: A preview review of Sequence of the Sky’s upcoming album, This Heartbreak

Recently, I’ve been back on a bit of a Stevie Nicks kick. Rhiannon, Crystal, two of my all time favorites, but of course she’s done fantastic work with Fleetwood Mac as well. Thanks to Spotify, I’ve been able to create an excellent playlist mostly based around Stevie’s work and that playlist also includes artists like Haroula Rose, Angus & Julia Stone, and Delta Rae. Now, however, I’ve got a new band to include on that playlist and that would be Sequence of the Sky.

If you are a fan of Stevie Nicks or Heart, then you definitely want to check out Sequence of the Sky. They have that slow, almost beautifully haunting sound that Heart hits on a lot and then they bring up the pace to hook you in. While the band has that strong classic rock vibe, they also bring their own twist to the table. There are definite jazz elements here and it just adds to that sultry, spooky energy the band has with some of their songs. On May 4th they released a great sneak peek of their album on YouTube, giving us their song “Look Me in the Eye” ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfmRk6HSlIo&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR03r6dzmlMDmZZzW6Bjx9YVgyDd488f83Oei_NSGRb3fez75ISlkkeW9zA ) and you should definitely listen to it, because they implement those jazz elements very well.

Sequence of the Sky has previously released an EP (“It’ll Be Alright”), but This Heartbreak is their first full length album. While “It’ll Be Alright” was more of an R&B and Pop work, this new album took a different route and touched on more classic rock and jazz veins. This switch in genres just goes to show how much potential this band has. It’s important for artists, of all mediums, to play with various genres to help them grow and find their very own signature in their art. I’d say Sequence of the Sky is definitely on the right track.

Now, I only got a snippet of some of their work on their upcoming album, This Heartbreak, but from what I heard, I definitely want to hear more. The album is available for pre-order now and it will be fully released on May 16th, so be sure to get your copy soon! Once it’s released, you can find the album on just about any streaming platform including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
